Torah on Tap

Back in the early part of the century, when I was a young rabbi working at the University of Florida with Jewish college and graduate students, I created Torah on Tap, based on the popular Theology on Tap program run by a colleague.

It became a huge success, got some great national press, and though I doubt I was the first to run such a program, it became kind of a signature thing for me.   I felt that it could serve several good purposes at once.  It brought young Jewish people together to have fun and create a positive Jewish memory.  It provided a new and interesting way to study sacred stories or discuss current events affecting the Jewish community.  It demonstrated the way to drink responsibly.  Lastly, it gave me an opportunity to educate young people about something very, very important. Beer.

Soon, very soon, Torah on Tap will be coming to North Houston.  And it won’t just be for college students any more.  It’s time for Bible and Double Bock.   Talmud and Trappist Ale.  Midrash and Microbrews.  Oh yes, my pretties.  It’s so on.
