About
THE JEWLISTIC MANIFESTO:
It used to be, people knew what they were, what they believed and where they fit in. Today, we each have many identities, and trying to ignore the many directions we’re pulled in is not only impossible, but also destructive.
I’m proud to be Jewish and completely committed to living a Jewish life. On my terms, not yours. I’m also an American and love this country deeply. In fact, in my next gilgul (reincarnation) I want to be a Navy SEAL.
I’m a huge Tom Petty fan, can’t get enough of Jack White. I wish Eminem or KanYe would sample Shelomo Carlebach. I’ve had the deepest religious experiences of my life in theater, onstage and off, and at Grateful Dead shows, as well as in the woods of the Connecticut River Valley and in the Sinai Desert. I miss Jerusalem. I also miss the East Village and Pittsburgh. I am not ashamed of my love for Disney, or my love for the Rockabilly scene. If my wife or friends would let me, and If I had no responsibilities to anyone else, I’d get a Harley Davidson tomorrow.
I studied martial arts for years, took classes in stage combat, meta-shakespeare, and dance (!) in college, and spent five years pursuing improvisational and experimental theater before I went to seminary. I’m a subgenius, an achiever, and whatever the in-term for James Bond fans is, I’m that, too. I’m mostly a husband and get to be daddy to two amazing little human beings.
I dare you try and put me in a box, Jewishly or otherwise. And chances are, you’re just like me, by being many different things all at once. I say, embrace it. I say, this is what the universe wants me to be. I say, we are all pluripotent. I believe in progress, not perfection.
So this is my website. I propose a worldview that is Holistic and Jewish. Jewlistic. Hope you dig it. Follow your bliss, and Shalom Aleichem.
